The Soča Valley, located in western Slovenia, is a stunning region renowned for the emerald-green Soča River, often called the “Emerald Beauty.” This picturesque valley stretches from the Julian Alps to the Italian border and is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. It is the part of our land on which we are really proud of, as it really is something different and special from various aspects. Nature, peace, history – everything is there.
Follow the emerald Soča River from the Julian Alps through dramatic gorges, peaceful forests and hidden waterfalls. With stops at Lake Jasna, Vršič Pass, Šunik Water Grove, Virje and Boka Waterfall, this tour combines breathtaking nature, local history and some of Slovenia’s most unforgettable scenery.
Our first stop of the day will be near Kranjska Gora by Lake Jasna. it is composed of two interconnected artificial lakes, fed by the cold, clear waters of the Pišnica River, surrounded by majestic peaks and lush forests. We will stop there for a stroll and enjoy as lake’s crystal-clear turquoise waters reflect the surrounding mountains, creating a picture-perfect setting that enchants visitors year-round. It is definitely worth stopping by.
Our next destination of the day will be the Vršič pass. Slovenia’s highest mountain pass, located at an elevation of 1,611 meters, serves as a breathtaking gateway between the Soča Valley and the Upper Sava Valley. The road to Vršič, known as the Russian Road, features 50 hairpin bends, each offering unique vantage points of the surrounding alpine scenery. The views of rugged peaks, lush forests, and deep valleys make the journey itself a spectacular experience. On the way we will make some stops and learn about local history, which is tightly connected with the First world war. Vršič Pass is not just a road—it’s an unforgettable journey through some of Slovenia’s most majestic landscapes, steeped in history, natural beauty, and outdoor adventure.
So we come to the other side of the pass. We slowly descend and soon we make our next stop – by Soča river, which is the valley’s centrepiece, famous for its crystal-clear waters, which flow through steep gorges, lush meadows, and tranquil pools. This river is truly amazing. We will make a short walk by its river beds and see it for ourselves.
… will be our next stop. It is a tranquil area characterized by a series of cascading waterfalls, emerald pools, and moss-covered rocks, all nestled within a pristine forest setting. The name roughly translates to “Šunik’s Water Grove,” reflecting its serene and enchanting atmosphere. If you will be into it, we will make a round walk in the grove, which will take us about 1 hour with some ups and downs. You will not regret it.
Later on we will pass Bovec town which settled in the valley and surrounded with mountain peaks of the Julian Alps. To come to it we must descent with a 15-minute walk, but it is a place well worth it. Waterfall is nestled in a peaceful forested area, with lush greenery surrounding the falls and the creek. The waterfall is particularly enchanting in spring and early summer, when the water flow is at its peak.
Our last stop will be the viewpoint of Boka waterfall which is the largest waterfall in Slovenia by volume of water, with a dramatic drop of around 106 meters (330 feet), and is known for its striking beauty and raw power. And it will be a nice day to finish the day and return to our starting point.

What do I need for this tour?
First of all — bring a smile. Everything else is optional.. But we also recommend a nice comfortable shoes in which you can also walk a little uphill and appropriate clothes – as in this mountain area it can be a little cooler.
