Postojna Cave is one of the largest and most recognizable karst caves in Slovenia and the most visited cave in Europe. Can you imagine? Each year it is visited by more than 500.000 people from all over the world who find it the most spectacular tourist site in Europe.
The cave is entwined with more than 20 kilometres of tunnels, passages, galleries and magnificent halls. After a ride with a special cave train (yes, a train inside a cave) we will walk through different cave corridors, tunnels and halls which are adorned by stalactites and stalagmites of fantastic forms.
Did you know that Postojna Cave is also a home to a mysterious, unique and rare amphibian – Proteus anguinus, also called the human fish or the olm.
Only 9 kilometres away stands one of the most interesting castles in Slovenia – Predjama Castle. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched up in the middle of a vertical 123-metre high cliff for more than 700 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic River Lokva, which disappears into the underground below the castle. And have you heard about the Game of Thrones? Of course you did. What do I need for this tour?
First of all — bring a smile. Everything else is optional.. But we also recommend a nice comfortable shoes in which you can also walk a little uphill and appropriate clothes – as the cave has a regular 9 degrees Celsius. It’s also a great option for rainy days.
