Triglav National Park, located in the Julian Alps of northwestern Slovenia, is the country’s only national park and a haven of natural beauty. Named after Mount Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak at 2,864 meters, the park spans breathtaking landscapes of rugged mountains, crystal-clear rivers, alpine meadows, and glacial valleys. It is definitely worth visiting!
Experience the wild beauty of Slovenia’s only national park, where deep Alpine valleys, powerful waterfalls and towering mountain walls create some of the country’s most impressive scenery. From Vintgar Gorge and the peaceful Radovna Valley to Peričnik Waterfall and the views from Vršič Pass, this tour is a true journey into the heart of the Julian Alps.
We will start our day with Vintgar gorge. It is one of Slovenia’s most captivating natural attractions. Carved by the Radovna River over millennia, this stunning gorge stretches approximately 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) through a dramatic canyon framed by towering vertical cliffs that rise up to 100 meters (330 feet) in height. But we can only show you the way, you’re the one who has to walk through it. And discover its wonders, diverse vegetation and natural pools beneath you. And yes, it also has a waterfall!
Later we continue to Radovna valley, a serene and picturesque alpine valley, stretched between the Julian Alps and bordered by the majestic peaks of the Pokljuka and Mežakla plateaus. The valley is home to pristine natural landscapes, including dense forests, lush meadows, and the Radovna River, which flows gently through it. The homesteads are scattered across the valley and people still live their remote life, which gives us a glimpse in Slovenian alpine tradition. We will drive through the valley and make some stops or short walks in this peaceful Alpine gem.
When we talk about Vrata valley we think of one of the most spectacular Alpine valleys in Slovenia. Located in the heart of Triglav national park it is home to the crystal-clear Triglavska Bistrica River and the impressive Peričnik Waterfall, a two-tiered cascade that is among Slovenia’s most iconic natural landmarks – the lower waterfall is plunging an impressive 52 meters. Let make a short walk up to the waterfall and admire its beauty and power (depending of the season). Later we will continue to the end of the valley and stop by mountain cottage and walk from there to see mount Triglav’s north face. Often referred to as the “Slovenian Wall” is rising nearly 1,000 meters vertically and it is one of the largest and most challenging rock faces in the Eastern Alps. Let us stop there and admire this nature’s peace of art for a while.
Our final destination of the day will be the Vršič pass. Slovenia’s highest mountain pass, located at an elevation of 1,611 meters, serves as a breathtaking gateway between the Soča Valley and the Upper Sava Valley. The road to Vršič, known as the Russian Road, features 50 hairpin bends, each offering unique vantage points of the surrounding alpine scenery. The views of rugged peaks, lush forests, and deep valleys make the journey itself a spectacular experience. On the way we will make some stops and learn about local history, which is tightly connected with the First world war. Vršič Pass is not just a road—it’s an unforgettable journey through some of Slovenia’s most majestic landscapes, steeped in history, natural beauty, and outdoor adventure.

What do I need for this tour?
First of all — bring a smile. Everything else is optional. But we also recommend a nice comfortable shoes in which you can also walk a little uphill and appropriate clothes – as in this mountain area it can be a little cooler.
