In north-western part of Slovenia, around 40 minutes’ drive from Ljubljana, lies the heart of Slovenian Alpine region and the home of the country’s most precious treasures – lakes Bled and Bohinj and Vintgar gorge. Lake Bled is one of Slovenia’s most famous and picturesque destinations, located in the foothills of the Julian Alps. It is surrounded by lush forests, towering mountains, and the iconic Bled Island, which is home to a beautiful church and a bell tower. The largest permanent lake in Slovenia, Lake Bohinj is a pristine body of water with crystal-clear, emerald-colored waters and the surrounding landscapes offer spectacular views of the Julian Alps. Vintgar Gorge was carved by the Radovna River over thousands of years, the gorge is a picturesque and dramatic canyon with crystal-clear waters, waterfalls, rapids, and lush greenery.
We will explore them together and find out if they truly are nation’s biggest pearls.
Experience three of Slovenia’s most famous Alpine highlights in one unforgettable day — walk through Vintgar Gorge, cross Lake Bled by traditional Pletna boat and enjoy the wild beauty of Lake Bohinj and Savica Waterfall. A perfect mix of dramatic scenery, local tradition and classic Slovenian must-sees.
We will start our day with Vintgar gorge. It is one of Slovenia’s most captivating natural attractions. Carved by the Radovna River over millennia, this stunning gorge stretches approximately 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) through a dramatic canyon framed by towering vertical cliffs that rise up to 100 meters (330 feet) in height. We can show you the way — but you’re the one who gets to walk through it. it. And discover its wonders, diverse vegetation and natural pools beneath you. And yes, it also has a waterfall!
Afterwards we will visit Lake Bled; Slovenia’s pride, “a must” for every traveller. But what truly attracts people? Lake itself with surrounding Alpine scenery? Island on the lake with the gothic church? Or is it the castle, high above the lake, controlling the valley like and old bodyguard? This place really is special – and it is up to you to discover!
We will take a “pletna” ride to the island. It’s a traditional boat, made by locals, operated by a single rower with two long oars. Don’t worry, you will not row and we will not leave you on the island. But we do want you to have this experience as the wooden Pletna boats, unique to Lake Bled, offer a peaceful ride that provides stunning views of the lake, Bled Castle, and the surrounding mountains, making it an iconic and memorable experience for visitors. So just relax and enjoy the ride.
Later we will visit the Bled castle – Slovenia’s oldest castle, perched dramatically on a cliff 130 meters (426 feet) above the shimmering waters of Lake Bled. This medieval fortress offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lake, its iconic island, and the surrounding Julian Alps. You can explore the castle’s museum, showcasing the region’s rich history, or visit the castle chapel, blacksmith’s forge, and wine cellar.
We will continue our day by visiting Lake Bohinj, Lake Bled’s bigger brother. One does not simply walk into Bohinj — and stay calm about it. Bohinj Lake is the biggest Slovenian Alpine Lake and unlike anything else in Slovenia. Locals are very proud on their legacy and nature – as they should be.
First, we will visit the Savica waterfall – one of the lake’s main sources. To come to the waterfall, we will take about 20 minutes’ walk uphill – no worries, it’s not too difficult and it is worth it. For those who decide to wait for us in the parking lot – no problem, have a meal, coffee, ice cream or buy a small souvenir. Savica’s watercourse is divided into two parts in the hidden undergrounds. The famous A-shaped waterfall normally comes into sight at an altitude of 836 m and is 78 m high.
Later, after we descend, we will stop by the lake and have some free time – for a walk or just to relax and enjoy in Slovenia’s biggest national park. You deserve it!

First of all — bring a smile. Everything else is optional.. But we also recommend a nice comfortable shoes in which you can also walk a little uphill and appropriate clothes – as in this mountain area it can be a little cooler.
