Bled and Postojna – the two Slovenia’s most known tourist spots. First one is a famous Alpine lake with its island, church and a castle, the other is probably the best known underground cave in the world. What is there to add?
Three of Slovenia’s most iconic sights in one unforgettable day — the underground world of Postojna Cave, the dramatic Predjama Castle and the fairytale scenery of Lake Bled. A perfect blend of nature, history and classic Slovenian highlights.
We will start the day with Postojna Cave which is one of the largest and most recognizable karst caves in Slovenia and the most visited cave in Europe. Can you imagine? Each year it is visited by more than 500.000 people from all over the world who find it the most spectacular tourist site in Europe.
The cave is entwined with more than 20 kilometres of tunnels, passages, galleries and magnificent halls. After a ride with a special cave train (yes, a train inside a cave) you will walk through different cave corridors, tunnels and halls which are adorned by stalactites and stalagmites of fantastic forms.
Did you know that Postojna Cave is also a home to a mysterious, unique and rare amphibian – Proteus anguinus, also called the human fish or the olm.
Only 9 kilometres away stands one of the most interesting castles in Slovenia – Predjama Castle. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant and mysterious castle has been perched up in the middle of a vertical 123-metre high cliff for more than 700 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic River Lokva, which disappears into the underground below the castle. And have you heard about the Game of Thrones? Of course you did. Its author visited this castle, listened to its stories and said he may put it in The story of ice and fire. Will he really? Will see… And yes, The Witcher was filmed here.
Afterwards we will visit Lake Bled; Slovenia’s pride, “a must” for every traveller. But what truly attracts people? Lake itself with surrounding Alpine scenery? Island on the lake with the gothic church? Or is it the castle, high above the lake, controlling the valley like and old bodyguard? This place really is special – and it is up to you to discover!
We suggest taking a “pletna” ride to the island. . It’s a traditional boat, made by locals, operated by a single rower with two long oars. Don’t worry, you will not row and we will not leave you on the island. But we do want you to have this experience as the wooden Pletna boats, unique to Lake Bled, offer a peaceful ride that provides stunning views of the lake, Bled Castle, and the surrounding mountains, making it an iconic and memorable experience for visitors. So just relax and enjoy the ride.
Or maybe instead visit Blead Castle – Slovenia’s oldest castle, perched dramatically on a cliff 130 meters (426 feet) above the shimmering waters of Lake Bled. This medieval fortress offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lake, its iconic island, and the surrounding Julian Alps. You can explore the castle’s museum, showcasing the region’s rich history, or visit the castle chapel, blacksmith’s forge, and wine cellar.

What do I need for this tour?
First of all — bring a smile. Everything else is optional. But we also recommend a nice comfortable shoes in which you can also walk a little uphill and appropriate clothes – as in mountain area it can be a little cooler, plus the cave has a regular 9 degrees Celsius. It’s also a great option for rainy days.
